Our Impact Story: Empowering Youth and Strengthening Food Security through Cassava

At Cassie Delicacies, we believe that true transformation begins at the grassroots — in the hands of young people who dare to innovate and in the fields that sustain us. Our journey is rooted in a simple but powerful vision: to turn cassava, a humble and resilient crop, into a catalyst for youth employment and lasting food security in Kenya and beyond.

The Challenge

Across many rural communities, young people face a stark reality. Despite their energy and creativity, opportunities for meaningful employment in agriculture remain limited. At the same time, families continue to struggle with food insecurity due to the effects of climate change, limited access to markets, and overreliance on a few staple crops.

Cassava, however, tells a different story — one of resilience and potential. It thrives in tough conditions, requires minimal inputs, and can be transformed into a wide range of nutritious and income-generating products.

The Cassie Delicacies Approach

From our base at Egerton University, we set out to reimagine cassava’s role in the food system. Our approach combines agro-innovation, youth empowerment, and value addition to create a model where agriculture becomes both profitable and sustainable.

We actively engage young people through:

  • Training and mentorship programs in cassava processing, food product development, and agribusiness management.

  • Hands-on experience in production units, giving youth practical skills in manufacturing, packaging, and quality assurance.

  • Entrepreneurial incubation, where innovative youth-led ideas are supported to grow into viable enterprises.

Through this, Cassie Delicacies has become more than a business — it is a platform where young innovators transform agriculture into opportunity.

Creating Opportunities, Changing Lives

Over the years, Cassie Delicacies has worked with youth groups, farmer cooperatives, and local institutions to build a new generation of agri-entrepreneurs.

  • Dozens of young people have gained employment and valuable experience in cassava processing, marketing, and distribution.

  • Youth-led teams are now managing small processing hubs, producing cassava flour, snacks, and other value-added products that are sold in local markets.

  • Through partnerships and outreach, more young farmers have embraced cassava cultivation, diversifying income sources and improving household resilience.

These young men and women are not only earning a livelihood — they are contributing to Kenya’s food security by promoting nutritious, locally sourced foods that reduce dependency on imported staples.

Building Food Security from the Ground Up

Cassie Delicacies’ impact extends beyond employment. By investing in local production and processing, we’re strengthening food systems that are regenerative and inclusive. Cassava-based products provide affordable, nutrient-rich alternatives that help families achieve better diets while supporting sustainable farming practices.

When young people find purpose in agriculture, communities thrive. Food becomes more accessible, incomes rise, and the rural economy grows stronger.

Looking Ahead

Our vision is to scale this impact even further — connecting more youth to opportunities in agribusiness, expanding market access for cassava products, and promoting innovation that ensures no one is left behind in the future of food.

At Cassie Delicacies, we are proving that cassava is more than a crop — it is a movement for youth empowerment, community transformation, and food security across Africa.
